Consultation processes in Latin America: case presentations and analyses in the light of international and national legislation of the countries involved in the project.
This module seeks to share knowledge about the situation of indigenous rights, participation and consultation in the countries involved in the course with the purpose that students form a clear vision on the situation in the region, and to recognize the most significant cases that have established jurisprudence in relation to indigenous rights.
Learning objectives:
- Share information and promote comparative reflection on the main implications of international law for indigenous peoples and its effective implementation, with emphasis on the rights of participation, consultation and consent in the countries covered by the course
- Understand the basic differences in the legislation of Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Panama with regard to free, informed prior consultation
- To know the main cases of claims for violations of indigenous rights which have established jurisprudence in the region
- Consolidate the main knowledge acquired during the course
